Introduction
Signal Mountain Campground sits in an open lodgepole pine forest near the Signal Mountain Lodge, with some sites positioned just above Jackson Lake and others a short walk from the shoreline. The views of Mount Moran and the northern Teton Range are the reason most people book here. The campground accepts tents and smaller RVs (up to 30 feet total length), and the developed area provides a wide range of services including lodging, restaurants, showers, laundry, and a marina. Maximum stay is 14 nights. This guide covers what you need to know before reserving a site at signal mountain campground grand teton national park.

The Layout: What You Get for Your Money
Signal Mountain Campground has 81 total sites. Four are tent-only. One is designated for RVs. Twenty-five sites include electric hookups. The rest are standard vehicle-accessible sites with no hookups.
Fees and Reservations
As of 2026, the fee for a standard campsite with a vehicle is $55.00 per night. Sites with electric hookup run $79.00 per night. Both rates include a picnic table, fire pit, nearby restrooms with flush toilets and cold running water, and a bear box at most sites. Public showers are available at this location. Those rates do not reflect Senior or Access passholder discounts, taxes, or incremental charges.
All campsites are reservable on Recreation.gov. Plan ahead and reserve your site up to six months in advance. The campground often fills before noon during peak season, so showing up without a reservation in July or August is a gamble that usually loses.
Site Selection Strategy
Returning visitors know that not all 81 sites are equal. The sites just above Jackson Lake catch morning light and wind off the water. The sites set further back in the lodgepole pines stay cooler and offer more privacy. There is no bad view of Mount Moran here, but the lakeside sites go first. If you want one, book the day reservations open.
RVs up to 30 feet total length can fit here. Anything longer will not work. The single RV site with hookups is reserved months in advance.
What You Will Find Here: Amenities and Reality
The campground itself is straightforward. What sets it apart is what surrounds it.
Services at Signal Mountain Lodge
Signal Mountain Lodge is a short walk from the campground. It offers lodging if tent life loses its appeal, restaurants that serve three meals a day, public showers (worth knowing if you are backpacking in from the backcountry), laundry facilities, and a marina on Jackson Lake. The marina rents boats and offers lake access for fishing and paddling.
What the Official Website Does Not Mention
The parking situation at the lodge can get tight on summer weekends. If you drive from the campground to the lodge expecting easy parking, you may circle the lot for ten minutes. Walk if you can. The distance is short.
Cell service drops out at unpredictable points around the campground. Do not count on streaming anything. Download maps and entertainment before you arrive.
Activities Right From Camp
You do not need to drive anywhere for a full day of activity. The campground location gives you direct access to several worthwhile options.
Hiking Trails
Signal Mountain Trail (3-5 hours, rated moderate to strenuous) starts from Signal Mountain Lodge. You cross the Teton Park Road and climb to the summit for views of the Teton Range and Jackson Hole. The trail gains elevation steadily. Pack extra water for this stretch. Lakeshore Trail (1-2 hours, easy) leaves from the Colter Bay Visitor Center, a short drive north. The trail follows the edge of Jackson Lake with minimal elevation change. Early morning is your best bet for calm water reflections of the peaks. Grand View Point (1-4 hours, easy to moderate) starts at Jackson Lake Lodge. The trail heads north through rolling terrain and opens to views that justify the name. From this overlook you can see the full sweep of the northern Teton Range. For those wanting a longer day, Two Ocean Lake - Emma Matilda Lake Loop (7-9 hours, strenuous) circles two lakes with wildflowers and Teton views. Hermitage Point (4-7 hours, moderate) offers a relatively flat walk through varied terrain with consistent lake and mountain views.
Water Access
Jackson Lake is the primary draw for boaters and paddlers. The marina at Signal Mountain Lodge rents powerboats, kayaks, and canoes. Fishing regulations require a Wyoming fishing license. Rangers will tell you the lake trout fishing is best in early morning or late evening.
Winter Considerations
Signal Mountain Campground closes for winter. The 2025-2026 closure runs from October 14, 2025 to May 9, 2026. During winter, the Moose-Wilson Road operates as a winter route, but the campground itself is inaccessible by vehicle.
Current Conditions and Alerts
As of 2026, construction in the south end of the park affects access. The Moose-Wilson Road is open between Granite Entrance and Rockefeller Preserve but closed between Rockefeller Preserve and Moose. Death Canyon Road and Trailhead are closed. The Taggart Trail has a detour in place. None of these closures directly affect Signal Mountain Campground, but they change access to the southern part of the park.
Practical Takeaways
- Reserve early. Sites book six months out on Recreation.gov. Peak season sites are gone within hours of becoming available.
- Bring cash. The convenience store and some services may have minimums for card transactions.
- Pack for temperature swings. Summer nights can drop into the 40s. Days can hit the 80s. Layers matter.
- Store food properly. Bear boxes are at most sites. Use them. Rangers check compliance.
- Know the max stay. Fourteen nights is the limit. After that you have to leave the park for at least one night.
- Check the complete visitor guide for seasonal updates on road closures and construction before you go.
- Compare rates with all campgrounds in Grand Teton to see which fits your trip best.
Final Thoughts
Signal Mountain Campground earns its reputation through location. The views of Mount Moran across Jackson Lake are not something you get at every campground in the park. The proximity to Signal Mountain Lodge means you have restaurant meals, hot showers, and boat rentals without driving. The campground itself is not fancy - 81 sites in a pine forest with flush toilets and cold running water - but it does not need to be. The setting does the heavy lifting.
Book early. Walk to the lodge. Watch the light change on Mount Moran at sunset. That is what this campground is for.
